        Singapore Airlines Excess Baggage Charges

From 1 April 2008, Singapore Airlines excess baggage charges will be levied across a Zone system, based on the originating region and the disembarking region:

From / To Band 1 Band 2 Band 3 Band 4
Band 1 13 20 39 90
Band 2 20 26 52 97
Band 3 39 52 72 103
Band 4 90 97 103 103

* All rates in Australia dollars with AUD/SGD conversion rate as of 15/03/2008

Band 1: Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam.
Band 2: Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Maldives, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
Band 3: Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
Band 4: South Africa, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Denmark, and Russia.

Currently up to 31 March 2008, customers are charged 1.5 percent of the highest one-way Published Economy fare for each excess kg. The exact amounts are typically determined only at the check-in counters. With this new policy, customers will be able to work out, even before they arrive at the airport, the extra costs they would incur if they wish to travel with more baggage than their checked allowance.

The new system applies to all travel itineraries that do not involve USA and Canada, including interline travel, with Singapore Airlines as the first flight segment. Excess baggage to/from U.S.A. and Singapore will be continued to be levied on a per-piece basis.
