RYANAIR has instituted wideranging changes to its baggage policies, increasing costs by 50% but allowing passengers to travel with two checked bags.
Effective 01 Oct it will cost £15 to check in a bag if booked in advance online (currently £10) and £30 if booked at the airport, up from £20.
Fees for carrying sports equipment also increase, to £40 if pre-booked or £50 at the airport. Passengers may travel with two checked bags if they wish, each of which has a separate 15kg allowance - doubling the total current allowance.
The second checked bag costs £35 if pre-booked, or a whopping £70 at the airport.
Ryanair said the changes reflect the fact that its average fares have fallen by 20% this year, and pointed out that all of the optional checked baggage fees can be avoided by travelling with carry-on baggage only.
The carrier said 70% of its pax already travel with a single carryon bag which is free of charge.
