UNITED Airlines yesterday announced a $15 fee for the first checked bag on flights within the US and to/from Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The move follows on from American Airlines, who introduced a similar charge last month. The new changes will not affect itineraries including int'l flights, on which it will still be free to check a first and second bag. The changes apply to tickets purchased on or after 13 Jun for travel from 18 Aug. UA also said that fees to check three bags or more, overweight bags and items that require special handling will also increase. MEANWHILE, taxi cabs in South Florida have also started to tack fuel surcharges on to services.
